#39 - Prom Night (1980)
Prom Night (1980)
Jamie Lee Curtis gets second billing in this film, even though she doesn't really do anything for most of the movie. Obviously this was to capitalize on the success of Halloween which was only two years earlier. While this is also a great horror film, it plays out more like a 70's Italian giallo than a typical 80's American slasher - the focus is on the "whodunit" angle, with the killer's identity hidden by POV camera angles and a black mask and gloves. It's a good mystery with some very tense scenes, and a early classic in the genre. There are a few too many disco scenes, however.
