#24 - Jennifer's Body (2009)
Jennifer's Body (2009)
A lot of people seem to hate Diablo Cody's dialog (both here and in Juno), but honestly it didn't bug me at all. I think the biggest problem is that Megan Fox isn't really a very good actress, or maybe that she just doesn't look like the kind of girl who'd say something like, "you're totally lime green jello".
Anyway, overall this isn't a very good movie, although it does have some very good scenes (in particular, the scene where Jennifer first "visits" Needy is fantastically tense and creepy). I also like that the cast are (for the most part) believable as teenagers. I think where this movie fails is in its attempts to mix humor and horror. Horror films are inherently absurd, so it generally doesn't take much to turn a scary scene into a funny one, but here most of the humor is based on "realistic" quirky dialogue which ends up feeling out of place.
I do give this movie credit for being relatively original - I wasn't really sure where the plot was headed, which is rare in a genre that loves to recycle cliches. I can honestly say I've never seen a film quite like it, although I'm not sure that is a good thing.
