#34 - Thirst (Bakjwi) (2009)

Thirst (Bakjwi) (2009)

A young priest, wanting to help stop a terrible disease, volunteers for experimental trials where he is given a vaccine and then exposed to the virus. He is the only person out of 50 to survive, but not because of the vaccine - during the procedure he is accidentally transfused with vampire blood. I hate when that happens! His new found powers cause him to give up the cloth and start an affair with his friend's wife.

From the great Korean director Chan-Wook Park, this is an extremely dark and comic take on the typical vampire love story. It was actually quite a bit funnier than I had expected, although the humor is so dark that I think it's probably not for everyone. Highly recommended for fans of Park's other work (Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, etc) or for those who are interested in foreign horror and enjoy extremely black humor.
