#32 - Dracula (1931)

Dracula (1931)

I feel like this one hasn't aged very well. Lugosi is iconic as Dracula, and Dwight Frye is great as Renfield, but other than than I didn't find a lot to love. I started watching it with the newer Philip Glass score, but switched back to the original after a bit as I thought it was too obtrusive (plus I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid and wanted to view the original first). However, there is barely any score in the original version, and I thought it really hurt the movie. There are a couple of creepy and atmospheric scenes, but the cheesy effects (the bats are hilarious) really killed the mood for me. Karloff's Frankenstein was released the same year, and that one has held up wonderfully, but this one didn't really do anything for me.
