#26 - Return of the Evil Dead (1973)
This is the first sequel to Tombs of the Blind Dead, which I posted about a few weeks ago. The only thing it really has in common is the zombie templars, though, as none of the characters return and it seems to be set in a different (but similar) village.
The violence and gore are ramped up a little bit here, but being a low budget 70's film none of it is very convincing (although there is a great scene where, in a flashback, a templar cuts out the heart of a sacrifice victim and takes a big bite out of it. Yum!). The acting is bad again, possibly worse, and the characters are mostly shallow and unlikable. Everyone is very European again. The ending is incredibly anti-climatic - the zombies literally all just fall down into a pile and then the survivors walk away as the credits roll.
I see no reason to watch this one when it does the same thing as the original, only in a worse way. There are two more sequels in this series that I am looking forward to a little less now, but at least it appears that they take the action somewhere different.
