#15 - Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
This is an okay sci-fi horror film, with some great underwater footage, some iconic imagery, and a really great score, but with a really stupid monster. I'm sorry, but fish people are not even remotely scary, especially when they just kind of shuffle along and give you that blank fish-eyed stare. He's not even a very good swimmer - he doesn't seem to be able to navigate underwater any better than the humans, and spends most of his time either hiding in weeds or slowly swimming away. Instead of a horrifying monster, we get a minor threat that our protagonists are too stupid to deal with properly.
I don't have much else to say about it. It isn't a bad movie really, but as a sci-fi horror film where the science is dubious at best and absolutely nothing scary ever happens, it's hard to find much to love about it. Other than the music, this hasn't really stood the test of time in my opinion. For a scary underwater creature, stick with Jaws, and if you must have fish men, Humanoids from the Deep is a lot more fun.
