#16 - The Corridor (2010)

Tyler is a young man who, when his mother commits suicide, goes sort of crazy and attacks his friends who are trying to help.  When he is released from the psychiatric hospital some time later (years? months? I'm not sure), he and his friends get together in a retreat in the woods to reconnect.  While taking a walk, Tyler discovers a strange spot in the woods where shimmery walls suddenly appear all around him.  Thinking himself still insane, he brings the other guys out and they discover that they can see it too, although it now seems to be a long corridor.  From here, very strange and violent things start to happen.

The main thing that this movie has going for it is the original story - I can't quite compare it to anything else I've seen.  There is also a lot of interesting symbolism going on - the corridor seems to represent Tyler's insanity, while his friends each represent a different sort of male insecurity (one is impotent, one is prematurely bald, another is stuck in a dead end job).  I guess you could argue that the film is about Tyler conquering these insecurities and ultimately facing his fear.

This sounds pretty interesting on paper, but in reality I found much of this film to be dull.  The characters don't feel like real people, so I didn't particularly care when the bad and bizarre things started happening to them.  The worst part, however, is that all this craziness builds up to an ending that is executed so poorly that I briefly wondered if it was supposed to be a joke.  The Tim and Eric show has better effects.  I didn't really enjoy this one too much, and can't recommend it.
