#10 - Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)

(dir. Joseph Zito)

Oh boy, another extended flashback sequence! This one combines footage from all three previous films, just in case you forgot the complex backstory of "Jason kills people". This film picks up immediately where Part III left off, with Jason lying dead in the barn where Ginny axed him in the face. But is he really dead? The police and medics seem to think so, since they cart him off to the morgue and all, but of course he somehow revives and returns to Crystal Lake to continue his killing spree.

Shockingly, this was actually the best one in the series so far. The plot is more or less the same - some folks in the woods have an unfortunate encounter with Jason - but it adds a few elements to keep things interesting. The characters are better written, the acting is good all around, and the pacing is just about spot-on. Tom Savini finally returns to do the special effects, and they all look great. A few of the kills are stylish and super memorable, and even the less spectacular ones are all well executed (see what I did there?). Plus you get to see Crispin Glover do this ridiculous dance:

If you like 80's slashers, this is one of the best, right up there with classics like The Burning and My Bloody Valentine. Highly recommended.
