#12 - Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986)
Tommy Jarvis is back again, this time played by a completely different actor for some reason. The movie opens with Tommy headed to Jason's grave to dig up his corpse and burn it to ensure that he can never come back. Perhaps obviously, this doesn't go super well, and he ends up resurrecting him instead. Oops! Jason, now an unkillable zombie, goes on a rampage to get revenge on Tommy.
I really enjoyed this one. It never takes itself too seriously, and brings a sense of humor to the table that the other films in the series so far have lacked. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a comedy, exactly, but it isn't afraid to go way over the top and is often quite funny. It is very self-aware, and even breaks the fourth wall for a moment when one character looks at the camera and says, "Some folks sure got a strange idea of entertainment." It gets a bit more serious towards the end, but the tone stays pretty consistent overall.
This film really has a lot going for it. The summer camp actually feels like a real camp, since it finally has children staying there (don't worry, they all make it to the end). The final showdown between Tommy and Jason is one of the best moments of action in the series so far. The soundtrack is great, featuring a few songs by Alice Cooper, most notably "The Man Behind the Mask" which was written for this film. I'm having a hard time finding negative things to say about this one... I guess the acting isn't great, but it wasn't distractingly bad either.
Out of what I've seen so far, I'd rank this as my second favorite (behind Part IV).
