#20 - The Babysitter (2017)

(dir. McG)

Completely by chance, this is another horror film about a 12-year-old boy and his babysitter. After Bee puts Cole to bed, he hears the doorbell ring and several people enter the house. When he sneaks out of his room to spy on them, he makes a horrifying discovery - they are members of a Satanic cult, and Bee is their leader. Even worse, they need the blood of an innocent for their ritual...

This one skews much more towards comedy than Better Watch Out, even though it is also much bloodier. Given the subject matter, the humor is obviously a bit dark, but the movie keeps things pretty light and fun overall. I really liked the cinematography too. McG got his start directing music videos, and I think that shows here. Much of the film is super stylish, and sometimes graphics and text will pop up on the screen during key scenes (my favorite is a giant "WHAT. THE. FUCK." after the big reveal).

If you're into horror/comedies that are heavy on the comedy (this movie is often gross but rarely actually scary), I definitely recommend this one. It just came out as a Netflix exclusive this past Friday, so check it out there.
