#28 - Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
A couple of teens hanging out at the local make-out point see what appears to be a meteorite land in the woods nearby, so they decide to go to check it out. Many horror and sci-fi films start out this way (for example, both versions of The Blob), but most of them don't involve the teenagers running afoul of carnivorous alien clowns who bundle their victims up in cotton candy cocoons. When they try to warn the people of the town, they are laughed at, but one police officer decides to check out their story and finds that these horrifying creatures are real...
So obviously this movie is goofy as hell. Unless you have a serious fear of clowns, you won't find anything scary here, but it definitely isn't going for scares anyway. The clowns are ridiculous, and while their masks/make-up may be creepy, the creatures themselves aren't threatening at all. They mostly slowly waddle about and do typical clown things like throw pies and pile out of tiny cars. The various silly ways that they kill/capture their victims are often pretty creative and fun, especially one involving some very realistic shadow puppets.
If you like over-the-top cheesy 80's horror movies, this one is a lot of fun. Not exactly high art, but it knows exactly how silly it is and embraces it. Recommended for sure.
