#27 - What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

(dir. Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi)

A documentary team follows the lives of Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav, three vampires who share a flat in New Zealand, as they deal with problems both supernatural and domestic - everything from who has to do the dishes to how difficult it is to choose an outfit when you don't have a reflection. Shot "mockumentary"-style, this movie is closer in tone to a Christopher Guest comedy (think This is Spinal Tap or Best in Show) than it is a horror film, and while there are some bloody moments, they are played for laughs.

This is a very funny movie. I don't want to give away too many of the jokes, which mostly involve poking fun at vampire tropes, but one of my favorite bits involves the vampires' rivalry with a group of overly polite werewolves ("We're werewolves, not swear-wolves!"). Definitely recommended if you are looking for something lighthearted that is still seasonally appropriate. Currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
