#36 - The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942)

(dir. Erle C. Kenton)

After Frankenstein's monster dies (for the third time or so), the townsfolk still live in fear of the creature's curse.  They decide to destroy the castle, and in doing so accidentally uncover the body of the monster!  Ygor is also somehow still alive, despite being shot repeatedly in the last film.  Ygor takes the monster to visit Dr. Frankenstein's other son, who becomes obsessed with transplanting a "good" brain into the body of the monster.  Of course, things go horribly wrong.

This wasn't too bad, but it definitely felt like a retread of Son of Frankenstein.  Lon Chaney Jr. plays the monster here, and he's pretty good, and Lugosi is good again as Ygor, but the script isn't as strong as the last few films and mostly the whole thing just feels unnecessary.  I can't really recommend this when the other Universal Frankenstein movies are better in every way.
