#23 - The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (1959)

(dir. Edward L. Cahn)

There is a curse on the men of the Drake family... they all seem to die at age 60 from the same cause - heart failure, followed by decapitation!  The police are called in after Jonathan's older brother is killed, but they are hesitant to believe that anything supernatural is going on, even when the brother's skull turns up locked in the family vault, covered with mysterious fingerprints.  The plot gets a little convoluted, involving shrunken heads and re-animation, but basically this is a story of supernatural revenge.

I should've watched it as a double-feature with The Snake Woman, as both are short b-movies about mysterious curses.  This one has some good acting and some creepy scenes, and while it isn't a masterpiece, I can't think of much negative to say about it either.  Just an all-around solid little movie.  The title is great too, even if it doesn't exactly make sense.  Recommended to fans of classic horror.
