#9 - Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)

(dir. Brian James O'Connell)

I'd imagine that the marketing for this movie involved the phrase "Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead", which is pretty apt, if only superficially.  When loyal employee Evan (Fran Kranz) gets passed over for a big promotion, he begins to suspect his new boss is actually a vampire.  Turns out corporate offices and vampire covens have a lot in common.

This is more comedy than horror (although it does contain more than its share of blood), and for the most part it is pretty funny.  Kranz (Cabin in the Woods, Dollhouse) is great, and is the biggest thing this film has going for it.  I don't know why he doesn't get more roles, because he's a good actor with great comedic timing.  The story is a bit weak at times, especially a sub-plot about Evan trying to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend, which I saw as an unsuccessful attempt at aping Shaun of the Dead.  However, the pacing is great and the weaker moments are generally over before they get dull.

Overall this is a pretty good horror/comedy film, and if you like the genre I recommend it.  It's not super deep and probably won't be remembered as a classic, but it is entertaining enough while it lasts, and got quite a few big laughs out of me.
