40 Days and 40 Nights... or so.
It's the most wonderful time of the year... Halloween season! Most people won't acknowledge the fact that Halloween has a "season", but that's because most people are jerks. Costumes and candy are in the stores, there's a fall chill in the air, and before we know it, it will be time to dress up like an idiot and then act like one.
However, the best part of the season isn't carving pumpkins or eating "fun size" candy until it just isn't fun anymore - it's watching horror movies until your eyes bleed! For the past two years, I've attempted to marathon a bunch of scary/gory/cheesy films through the month of October, for no real reason other than it's fun and gets me all pumped for the holiday. In 2009, I attempted one film for each of the 31 days in October, but I wussed out and only ended up watching 21. Last year I tried again, starting a bit earlier and attempting to watch 31 films in 50 days, and that time ended up surpassing my goal (35, with 2 as repeats from the previous year).
This year, I'm going to go back and attempt the one film per day challenge again, but setting the bar at 40 instead of 31. Honestly, this is only because I thought of the title a few weeks ago and really wanted to use it. I may very well fail again, but it will at least be a good time (plus, now I get to start tomorrow instead of waiting until the 1st). I've decided to go with a blog this year, mostly because I've never had a blog for anything and wanted to play around with the format, but also because I was using Facebook's "Notes" app for the past two years and it was a pain in the ass. This way I can also blog about other Halloween related things as well!
The reason I'm publishing this online is to generate conversation and drum up some Halloween spirit, so please leave comments, follow along, suggest some films, or contribute whatever you'd like!
