#1 - The Return of the Living Dead (1985)

One of the best zombie movies of the 80's, and one of the best horror/comedies ever. The premise is genius - Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" was based on a true story, and the zombies from that incident accidentally ended up stored in a medical supply warehouse. After a series of unfortunate accidents, a chemical that reanimates the dead makes its way to the nearby cemetery, where a group of punk teenagers are hanging out. Standard zombie hi-jinks ensue.

What sets this film apart is the varied cast of over the top characters, awesome creature design and effects, and a great sense of humor that doesn't overwhelm the creepy parts. The "tarman" zombie is one of the most memorable zombies in movie history. I also love that the zombies can not only talk, but specifically ask for brains instead of just the usual moaning.

Also worth mentioning is the bitchin' punk rock soundtrack.
