#41 - Terrified (2018)
(dir. Demián Rugna)
In the suburbs of Buenos Aires there is some serious supernatural shit going down. Creepy voices from the pipes, the dead coming back to life, creatures hiding under your bed, and more! All this activity gets the attention of some paranormal researchers, and along with the police they investigate the increasingly disturbing events.
This movie is... a lot. It's got a lot of cool and creepy ideas, and it throws them at you rapid-fire. There is often barely time to breathe between scares and after a while I began to feel numb to them. Which is unfortunate, because there are actually a lot of really well executed jump scares and legit creepy moments, but the film focuses on them so much that it forgets to tell an interesting story.
It does have a lot of strengths though. The characters are really good and I enjoyed how they reacted to everything. The police especially, most of them just noped right out of there, which is the appropriate response. And like I said, there are a lot of good creepy ideas - if the film could've taken some time to explore them more I think this could've been something really special.
Overall I think this is worth checking out, but it was only good when it had the potential to be great. It tries to cram way too many ideas into a < 90 minute movie - it might've benefitted from being longer I think, both to flesh out the plot and to improve the pacing.
