#24 - A Chinese Ghost Story II

(dir. Ching Siu-Tung)

Several years after losing the love of his life, Siu-Sin (a ghost he fell in love with in the first film), Ling Choi Sin finds himself in prison for a crime he didn't commit. He escapes with the help of a mysterious elderly prisoner, then meets up a band of rebels and goes on a totally bonkers journey involving sorcerers, spirits, evil talking buddha statues, and giant centipede demons. Much like the previous film, this is nuts and a total blast the whole way through.

This is really more of a fantasy/adventure film than it is strictly horror, but it has ghosts and monsters and the occasional dismemberment in it, so I say it counts. It gets pretty cartoony sometimes, in a good way - some of the slapstick antics are straight out of Looney Tunes. The effects and creatures are all really fun and creative too.

If a crazy Hong Kong fantasy/adventure/horror film sounds like something you'd enjoy, this is a really good one - but start with part 1 first!
