#8 - Night Creatures (1962)
A British captain and his men arrive at a small coastal town to investigate a possible smuggling ring, but faces opposition in the form of an odd local vicar and rumors of "marsh phantoms" that are haunting the area. This is really more of a historical melodrama than a straight horror movie, as the ghosts unfortunately only appear twice. They are really awesome, too - glow-in-the-dark psychedelic skeleton suits aren't something you see every day.
Despite the lack of ghostly activity, this is a really enjoyable film. Peter Cushing is fantastic as the town vicar, and it's fun to see him in a role that is a bit different than usual. The rest of the cast is also made up of great British actors, and I especially enjoyed Hammer regulars Michael Ripper and Oliver Reed in their roles.
I don't have a whole lot to say about this one, but if you like Hammer horror or classic British cinema in general, you can't go wrong here. Pirates, romance, smugglers, and ghosts - what's not to like?
