#37 - Creep 2 (2017)
(dir. Patrick Brice)
Heads up: There is almost no way I can write anything interesting about this movie without majorly spoilering the first Creep, which you should watch first anyway. I highly recommend it - it's on Netflix and you can read my post from 2015 about it here.
Josef, now calling himself Aaron, is frustrated because he feels he has lost his creative knack... for murder. He hires Sara, a video artist who is also struggling creatively, to film a documentary about himself. Almost right away, Aaron straight up tells her that he is a serial killer, but she doesn't quite believe him. Willfully ignoring the red flags in hopes of pushing herself to create something meaningful, Sara decides to stay and help. And besides, he promises not to kill her!
This was great, and even a little better than the first one. Mark Duplass is fantastically charismatic and creepy at the same time. Despite a similar setup as the first, this is definitely not a rehash of it - the dynamic between Sara and Aaron is completely different, as she tries to manipulate him just as much as he is manipulating her. This isn't a comedy, really, but Duplass is frequently hilarious in an extremely dark way.
I loved this. A Creep 3 is in the works, and I'm excited to see where things will go from here. If you enjoyed the first one, I very highly recommend watching this sequel as well. Available on Netflix.
