#29 - Death O' Lantern ("1986")

(dir. "Rudy Bellafonte"/Chris Seaver)

The world of independent microbudget shot-on-video horror is interesting - despite the almost always terrible quality of the video, you'll sometimes find some good writing, or effects, or at least some good original ideas.  This film gets around some of the video quality issues by masquerading as a cheap VHS release from 1986, but the fact remains that the picture varies between "tolerable" and "total garbage".

Fortunately, this is actually a fun little movie.  Yeah, the humor is cheesy, the acting is often amateurish, and the effects are mostly bad, but it also shows a real love of 80's horror and silly monster movies.  It is also totally self-aware of how cheesy it is, and I thought it was sometimes pretty funny.

So, definitely not for everyone, but I liked it well enough.  If you can look past the awful video quality and general low-budgetness, there is a fun silly movie here.
